There are many different choices when it comes to packaging paper. Each of them has distinct properties. How do you distinguish them? In this article, we will help you distinguish between Kraft paper and Testliner paper.
The terms Kraft paper and Testliner paper in the packaging paper industry
Kraft paper and Testliner are two terms that are mainly used in the export goods market, to distinguish the types of paper used while producing paper bag products.
What is Kraft Paper?
Kraft-liner is the definition for kraft paperboard with at least 80% virgin kraft fiber content. The advantage is that the kraft paper is made from pure wood pulp, and the cellulose fiber structure is tightly intertwined, so the paper has a good bearing capacity, good tensile strength, and is difficult to tear. These properties make the paper extremely ideal for the packaging industry and suitable for high-humidity environments.
The kraft paper has several variations:
– White top kraft-liner is a product with 2 layers. The top layer consists of pure bleached hardwood kraft fibers, and the bottom layer is made from unbleached softwood kraft fibers. With one side being white, the white top kraft-liner provides excellent print quality for packaging products.
– White kraft paper refers to a range of different bleached kraft paper which is made from bleached wood pulp.
– Brown virgin kraft paper is a type of unbleached paper made from wood pulp. It has a natural brown color and is known for its strength and durability.
What is Testliner paper?
The term testliner is used to refer to paperboard that is similar to kraft paper but is manufactured from 100% recycled fiber, with coloring agents providing stable color quality. However, because it contains more recycled fiber components, the bearing capacity and the printing results on Testliner are lower than those of Kraft paper. And of course, at the same time, the cost will also be lower.
The testliner paper is commonly used for the following products:
– Food packaging.
– Consumer goods packaging.
– Liner sheets within corrugated cartons.
In summary, while Kraft paper boasts higher virgin fiber content and superior strength properties, Testliner, being made from recycled fiber, is a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative with some trade-offs in terms of bearing capacity and printing results.
Hopefully, this article can help you visualize and choose the right product for your needs.
