German ManufacturerUpcycles Trade Fair Banners Into Shopping Bags

The German family-owned business Handtmann says that for more than 20 years, it has been dedicated to creating resource-conserving product concepts and alternatives for the food processing industry. This covers products that are hybrid, vegan, and vegetarian.

Handtmann regularly displays its cuisine concepts and equipment solutions at various occasions and trade shows. The company claims that upcycling its trade show banners is a key component of its sustainability strategy. As part of the Handtmann “FROM SHOW TO SHOPPER’’ project, a textiles company that specializes in upcycling transforms the trade show banners into shopping bags. 

At its Alzenau headquarters, the firm creates its handmade goods. To ensure a responsible use of resources, Julian Dürr from RECICLAGE says, "Our objective is to make distinctive, one-of-a-kind objects using recycled materials."

Dürr adds: “And we give people from refugee backgrounds the opportunity to learn new skilled trades and pursue professions. And by employing people with disabilities to sew the upcycled unique items, we also support them in their efforts to participate in life and society on an equal footing.”

The purpose of this action, according to Handtmann, is to reduce the carbon impact of its trade show and advertising efforts even more. The CEO of Handtmann F&P, Harald Suchanka, is certain that “every Handtmann customer has their very own and personal tale to share. We also provide each of our staff a modest token of self-identification with their own firm on top every time we hand a customer over to them.
