What to do with excessive reusable bag

We are releasing an enormous amount of garbage as a result of our ever-increasing population, which greatly contributes to the contamination of our environment. In this perilous circumstance, reusable shopping bags made of plastic trash are regarded as one of the most efficient techniques of contributing to reducing the significant quantity of waste we create on a daily basis.

There is another issue about reusable shopping bags that they can occasionally proliferate. After forgetting them once, you purchase another set. You have another if someone delivers food or hand-me-downs. They appear to be distributed like candy at professional gatherings as the trendy eco-alternative to paper gift bags. That bag full of totes has suddenly turned into a bin full of totes, which is actually too many totes for most people. What should you do if you have too many reusable bags? Here are several ways that you can do with excess bags that are taking up space in your home. But don’t forget to clean them first!

Donate reusable bags to a food bank

Bans on plastic bags are harming food pantries and soup kitchens. For example, the Food Bank of South Jersey recently requested clean, new, or lightly used reusable shopping bags in order to donate food to the needy. Every year, the charity donates about 80,000 bags or boxes of groceries. Check with your local food bank or pantry to see whether they require them.

Give reusable bags to an animal shelter

Some animal shelters provide pet owners in need with free dog, cat, and bird food. Many communities also have foster care programs, and both can benefit from the usage of reusable bags. Reusable bags are used by the Hawaiian Humane Society in Honolulu to offer free pet food and to transport pet supplies and equipment to foster carers. Rena Lafaille, director of administration at the ASPCA Adoption Center in New York City, suggests contacting local shelters to determine their special requirements.

Put library books in your reusable bags

Most reusable bags, particularly canvas bags, are robust enough to carry big weights. As a result, they're ideal for your next library visit. You can also keep them in your car, handbag, or office when not in use. Some libraries may accept abandoned bags in order to distribute them to patrons who borrow more books than they can carry.

Use reusable bags as gift bags

If the point of using reusable bags is to curb single-use plastics, then why not use them as gift bags, too? Many are made from high-quality materials and boast beautiful designs. (Here are a few we love.) Add a little tissue paper and ribbon and you’re done.

Recycle reusable bags

Reusable bags are supposed to be better for the environment than plastic bags, but they aren't perfect either. According to a 2018 study, an organic cotton tote bag must be used 20,000 times to offset its overall environmental impact. Cotton bags cannot be composted, and the majority of dyes used to print logos on them are PVC-based and so non-recyclable. That is what makes ChicoBag so fantastic. This California-based company not only manufactures long-lasting reusable bags, but it will also accept and rehome your surplus reusable bags as part of its Pay It Forward initiative. Workers will manually sort them to determine if they may be reused, repurposed, or turned into something new.
