The second Bring Your Own Bag campaign features reusable bag racks to encourage grocery shoppers to donate or take reusable bags. On Saturday (Feb. 11), a three-month Bring Your Own Bag (BYOB) campaign was introduced to encourage people to use reusable bags when they go grocery shopping.

The program, which is run by Zero Waste SG (ZWSG), attempts to increase public awareness of the negative effects that disposable objects have on the environment, particularly their disastrous effect on the climate..

The campaign consists of 24 mobile roadshows at eight supermarket locations where ZWSG personnel will hand out used bags to customers while getting their opinions on the cost of disposable carrier bags through a quick poll.

ZWSG will inform grocery shoppers on how to develop the habit of bringing their own bags (BYO) to limit the use of disposables rather than paying fees for throwaway carrier bags, as the majority of supermarket outlets are expected to charge a minimum of five cents for plastic bags by mid-2023.

A reusable bag rack is also set up at roadshows to encourage shoppers to donate excess reusable bags and to take those donated by others, if required.

The initiative is being supported by major retailers FairPrice, Sheng Siong, Cold Storage, and Giant. The roadshows will take place on most Saturdays through April 30.

ZWSG started its first BYP Singapore movement in 2017, and since then, more than 1,100 shops from more than 140 companies have supported it.
